Fuck me Friday: The price of porn

safe sex

Do you watch porn?

Of course you do.

Do you find yourself wanting to ‘do’ what you see?

Monkey see, monkey do?

We are now in the era of BareBack porn.

Sure you still get videos where the performers wear condoms.

But in  the videos that turn me on the men are fucking BB.

After a prolonged period of decline, HIV rates are increasing in Ireland.

Particularly amongst young gay men.

We’re told that these young men don’t see HIV as a threat.

It is now considered a chronic illness.

Take you meds and you will be fine.

There is no need for hysterics.

This is largely true.

But there is a chance that you could get a nasty mutation that no meds can treat.

Or you die from another opportunistic illness that takes advantage of your HIV+ status.

My point is that the young feel invincible and they want the hot sex they see in videos.

Am I saying people are stupid?

That they can’t tell the difference between porn fantasy,

and the safe precautions that they should take in their private lives?

I guess I am.

Things don’t always make sense.

They can’t always be explained.

But patterns can be seen.

HIV rates are going up, and people are making and watching BB porn.

There must be a link?

Or am I being naive?

What responsibilities do we have as viewers?

I’m getting off on watching two men fuck bareback.

They are potentially putting themselves at risk.

For my entertainment.

They could catch a disease that will kill or radically change their lives.

That does not sit right with me.

Not only am I being subconsciously programmed to want to do something that will endanger me,

But I’m also endangering them through the act of watching.

Am I going to stop watching bareback porn?

No, I’m just saying like.

A stronger person would say, right no more BB porn for me.

I’m not that strong.

Hell no.

Is this an occasion where the State has to step in?

To save us from ourselves?

Ban all BB porn?

What impact would that have on civil rights and freedom of expression?

What do you think?

  1. Thought provoking, as always. But Patrick, if you feel something is wrong, surely you have some kind of control over your urges so that you can say no! You are not an animal driven by instinct. Just sayin!

  2. Dang, you don’t go easy on yourself do you? I’m not sure you can beat yourself up over this.

2 things: 1) Is this a chicken/egg issue? Did the industry move to do mostly BB porn contribute to the rise in HIV cases, or was the rise in BB among gay men the cause of more BB porn? Is it like reality television where once people saw it they liked it and wanted to be a part of it, so the industry made more of it. Or was it like Nascar Racing, where there was a huge following, so mainstream followed and started to show it more. I suspect it’s a bit of both. And I’d agree that the more BB porn out there has some affect on the number of people having BB Sex, and thus the increase in HIV case.

    2) And more importantly, is the if no one watched it would the industry make it? And since the industry makes it, the actors are at high risk. Granted there aren’t a lot of publicized cases of porn actors contracting HIV, but there are some for sure, probably a lot more than we hear about. But did they get it from ‘work’ or from risky behavior outside of work? And if the latter, did they practice unsafe sex because they were lulled into such behavior because of ‘work?’ I don’t know, but I agree, probably the only thing that will stop BB Porn is a boycott.

One last point, I don’t think that people who watch BB are more inclined to go have BB sex. I watched Road Run and Wily E. Coyote as a kid, I never tried to drop an anvil on my little brother. I watched/watch WWE Wrestling, I don’t think I can do the things they ‘do’ to each other. As adults, we know that just because we see something on tv/video/film – doesn’t mean we can or should do those things in person. Anyone who watches porn and then goes bb because they saw it on porn was likely inclined to have bb sex anyway.

Good thought provoking post for a friday morning over my coffee. 🙂

  3. Very thought provoking Mr. Darcy, and it’s certainly not a black and white situation. But is it, do you feel, maybe a lack of education that creates this increase?
Monkey see, monkey do!!! Some only have the ‘teachings’ of sex from porn. The subtle chat from your parents is almost non-existent and sex- ed in school is being questioned because of under-age pregnancy.

Maybe our futures will be littered with warning signs??
Packets of cigarettes already have gruesome pictures of rotting bodies. It won’t be long before each and every product deemed ‘bad’ will have some sort of warning.

Maybe the bigger question is whether we have given up on self-preservation and are simply taking on anything for the crack??

  4. I like porn, not a fan of BB porn, even in the very rare occasions that I watch str8 porn. I don’t think you or any others that watch BB porn are part of the problem though. The porn industry is what it is. I love gay porn, doesn’t make me want to go buy a strap-on, bend a hot man over and pound him.

    Wait…yes it does. Well shit…..😳
